Second committees Meeting

December 24, 2007
On December 24, 2007 the American Chamber of Commerce organized a Meeting of Committees. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the upcoming activities of the Committees and their institutional development.

The meeting was opened by Ainura Cholponkulova, Executive Director AmCham Kyrgyzstan outlining the future activity plan with the Committees.
Welcoming speech was given by Gulzada Duishebaeva, Program Coordinator at EdNet. Representatives of EdNet observed that cooperation between AmCham and EdNet would be very beneficial since the main activity of both organizations is focused on improving education and business-climate in the country, and these processes are very much interrelated.
Ed Beamen, Regional Technical Adviser, Private Sector Economic Growth & Business Environment Improvement Project USAID, implemented by PRAGMA Corporation, presented on the topic "How to build effective work of the Committees". Ed Beamen shared his professional experience of similar Committees in U.S. business community. Beamen remarked that first the Committee members have to reach the goals of the Association, and not concentrate solely on the separate interests of the group. In summing up his presentation, Ed Beamen anticipated the active participation of AmCham members in the Committee process and Association development, since the success of AmCham is a success for every company.
Zamira Akbagysheva, President, Congress of Women in Kyrgyzstan asked the question "how can we
motivate companies to take part in the Committees process", Ed Beamen commented that similar problems exist everywhere. He said that from his own experience, a detailed schedule for the forthcoming year is presented during annual Committee meetings, and they try to keep to that schedule, allowing active Committee members to efficiently organize their time. Also, highlighting Committee activities through publications and the website can be a motivation tool for AmCham Committee members. Esen Saliev, General Director "KATEL" Company, offered to work on creating close partnerships between AmCham Committees and the specialized committees recently created in Parliament.
Sandra Kaminska, President «AIESEC» represented her organization. AIESEC is an international organization where students and alumni can get experience abroad. AIESEC also provides opportunities for companies recruiting young and talented employees from abroad. Ms. Kaminska therefore addressed AmCham members with a specific proposal and described the advantages of cooperation with company-members.
To conclude the meeting, Ainura Cholponkulova thanked all the participants and wished them the best for the upcoming holidays.
