President's Letter

President’s Letter

Dear Members and Friends,

The New Year is well under way and the early signs are that it will be every bit as busy and challenging as 2006.  We expect AmCham to figure prominently in your plans as we have a long list of events and objectives we hope to achieve.
On a personal note, I am encouraged by my talks with a number of you who have expressed satisfaction with your results for last year and your expectations that 2007 may be even better. This is good to hear and we will look to have AmCham through its meetings, discussions and publications focus on the changes and progress that is being made. We will also continue to engage with government in providing constructive support for the many issues and programs we consider to be important.
Following the meetings in Istanbul sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce we are also looking forward to working on a number of regional issues that concern many of us. These include cross border trade, harmonizing customs requirements and financial transfers.
Your board of directors and the management of AmCham remain committed to being of service to you and in providing support for your business activities.
Your involvement and participation in one or more of AmCham’s committees is requested as this gives you an opportunity to bring your own needs and interests directly to the fore while also serving the business community at large.
Here’s to a good business and positive results.

Best regards,
Don Nicholson

Letter from the Editor

Dear Readers

I think we can all welcome the year 2007 with guarded optimism and a better understanding about the realities of doing business in Uzbekistan.
In this expanded issue of Business Connections we continue to present our regular features about recent changes in legislation, decrees and resolutions which affect our business community, tax and customs news, Amcham member profiles, feature articles, interviews, committee activities and past events.
We have added new features dealing with AmCham regional news, and a quarterly executive director report. News items from our committees and members are intended to inform our community about key issues affecting our business environment and publicize our activities.
Our publication needs your inputs, suggestions and criticisms in order for it to reflect the interests of our AmCham community and to help mold the image AmCham wants to project to our friends, partners and host government

Best regards,
Charles Rudd
