NUKEM, Inc. – Corporate Profile

NUKEM, short for Nuklear Chemie und Metallurgie GmbH, is a worldwide diversified engineering company engaged in a range of activities covering chemicals, engineering, and nuclear services.  Since the late 1960s, the NUKEM group has been supplying uranium concentrates, conversion, low-enriched uranium, and other nuclear fuel-related services to electric utilities around the world.
NUKEM, Inc. based in Danbury, Connecticut, is a wholly owned subsidiary of NUKEM GmbH.  It is involved primarily in supplying nuclear fuel to leading utilities around the globe. Together with the Nuclear Services Division of NUKEM GmbH, NUKEM, Inc is the world's largest intermediary for sourcing, financing and marketing uranium, and conversion and enrichment services. NUKEM is the third largest uranium supplier in the world - delivering more than 15 million pounds of U3O8 annually.

The Company's long term purchase arrangements with uranium producers in Uzbekistan, Russia and Kazakhstan make NUKEM uniquely positioned to supply nuclear fuel and services in many forms. Together with the world's number one and number two nuclear fuel suppliers - Cameco and Cogema - NUKEM purchases natural uranium hexafluoride derived from nuclear warheads dismantled under the historic "Swords to Plowshares" HEU agreement between the governments of the United States and the Russian Federation.

NUKEM has expanded the scope and nature of its activities in several ways in recent years. The company has developed a significant business based on contracting processing services of its suppliers in the CIS. Several unique long term arrangements provide for the conversion of uranium bearing scrap materials into commercial nuclear fuel. In addition to its involvement in the HEU deal, the company actively participates in a U.S. government-funded non-proliferation program called Initiatives for Proliferation Prevention (IPP). The program aims to enhance U.S. national security by engaging former Soviet weapons scientists in peaceful commercial pursuits.

In recent years NUKEM has been steadily expanding business on supplying high purity grade chemicals as stable isotopes for the nuclear and semiconductor industries and for medical applications, such as Li-7, DZO, D-20, B-10, B-11, O-17, O-18, and N-15.

Other subsidiaries of NUKEM group focus on radioactive waste management, decommissioning and nuclear engineering and consulting businesses.  The operating offices are located in the USA, Germany, Great Britain and France with projects implemented in the USA, Western and Eastern Europe and CIS countries.

As of January 1, 2006, NUKEM group had 1209 employees.   Its 2005 annual sales equaled to 466 million Euro and order intake equaled to 783 million Euro.

NUKEM is a rapidly growing company. Consistent customer orientation and quality management are essential cornerstones of NUKEM's corporate philosophy. NUKEM places a high premium on individualized service, timely project completion, and providing customers with superior-quality products.
