Yevgeny Onokhin is a CIS Manager and Head of the Representative Office in Uzbekistan for NUKEM, Inc. He joined the company in June 1998.
In his current role, Yevgeny maintains and coordinates all of NUKEM’s business relations with its principle partner and sole uranium producer in Uzbekistan, Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine. He also actively participates in developing and implementing various commercial nuclear fuel projects in other CIS countries where NUKEM is involved.
His professional experience includes work with Counterpart Consortium, the USAID contractor in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as a consultant from 1995-1996. In this capacity, he offered training and consulting services to NGOs in Central Asia, and was responsible for providing grants to local organizations. During his graduate program in the USA in1996-1998, Yevgeny worked for six months as an intern in Washington, DC based American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce holding there a position of Deputy Director.
Yevgeny graduated from the University of World Languages in Tashkent with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English language interpretation and translation in 1995. One year later, he was awarded a prestigious USIA Muskie Fellowship to pursue Master’s Degree in Public Administration at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Upon finishing his graduate study in 1998, Yevgeny joined NUKEM and has worked for NUKEM since then.
Yevgeny is leading a pro-active style of life. He is passionate to various active sports like tennis, downhill skiing, soccer, mountain and cross country biking. In his teens, when he seriously pursued baseball, he was selected to play for the National Soviet Union Youth Baseball Team in 1991.
Yevgeny also enjoys traveling, reading, playing guitar, spending time with his family and meeting friends.
Having recently become AmCham board member, Yevgeny looks forward to contributing to the effective development of AmCham. As his first step, he would like to revive AmCham Trade & Investment working committee and make it an effective tool in AmCham activity. He welcomes all interested AmCham members to take part in the work of this committee that is to be resumed shortly. |
