The New Year is off and running and most of us are faced with a long list of issues that need to be addressed as soon as possible.  AmCham is also in a hurry, in that we have a growing agenda of things that you as members expect AmCham to deal with.  These range from tax changes, delays in obtaining currency conversion, access to cash on a timely basis, customs procedures, and a host of other matters that impact specific sectors such as tourism and those engaged in MICE  related activities (see the article for an explanation of the acronym). ...read more

AmCham General Assembly December 06, 2007

In accordance with the by-laws AmCham held its Annual General Assembly meeting on December 6, 2007 in the Dome restaurant of the Hotel InterContinental.

AmCham Executive Director Dr. Tatiana Okunskaya made a detailed presentation that featured the work done during the year highlighting the various meetings and related activities. Special mention was made of the AmCham Good Governance Program that was sponsored by the US Department of Commerce. In connection with the program, certificates of appreciation for active participation were presented to Donald Nicholson, Charles Rudd, Oybek Khalilov, Saidrasul Bakiev, Vera Makarova, Igor Pakan and Fernand Pillonel. ...read more
AmCham Monthly Meeting on December 13, 2007

On 13 December 2007 AmCham held its December monthly meeting at the Hotel Intercontinental. Guest speakers for the event were representatives of Honorary Member of AmCham  United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan  Fikret Akcura, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative and Bakhodur Eshonov, Head of UNDP Economic Governance Unit. AmCham Business Mixer at the US Embassy
on November 20, 2007

On November 20, 2007 HE Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of United States of America to Uzbekistan Richard Norland kindly invited all AmCham members and guests to the premises of the Embassy in Tashkent to enjoy a “Joint Business Mixer” organized by AmCham in Uzbekistan and the US Embassy in Uzbekistan. Despite warm and cordial atmosphere, good food and drinks the participants of the Business Mixer were slightly sad. How many of us are living in the Republic now?

As the Bankir.uz/News/Region.uz site informed, the number of permanent population of Uzbekistan made 27 mln as of October 1, 2007 (preliminary data); it has increased at 298,8 thousand (or 1,1%) from the beginning of the current year.

According to the State Statistics Committee, natality growth made 345,5 thousand, where rural population accounted 249,6 thousand or 72,3%. Migration balance for 9 months made minus 46, 6 thousand people, by the preliminary data. Number of new-born children for 9 months made 451,8 thousand and increased at 37,8 thousand or 9,1%; birth-rate went up from  20,9 to 22,4 ppm.  Birth-rate has increased in all the regions of Uzbekistan. 166,3 thousand of marriages and 13,1 divorces were registered for 9 months, i.e. 8,3 marriage and 0,7 divorce per 1000 of population,  whereas in 2006 the figures were 7,3 and 0,6 respectively. ...read more
