Dear AmCham members and friends,
As the new Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan, I have a great pleasure to extend my greetings to AmCham members and friends.
From the beginning of the year, the Chamber is developing new strategies to insure more proactive position of its members and place the economic and trade development of our membership within the regional framework. For this purpose, we need your valuable participation and inputs.
We use our best efforts to consolidate and enhance our membership from inside. By facilitating the services proposed by our working committees, we wish to increase the number of our companies. Since all the committees are made up of the representatives of our members, they are familiar with all the concerns and spheres of interests of their colleagues.
At the beginning of the 2008, the Trade and Investment Committee, chaired by Mr. Yevgeny Onokhin, resumed its activity. As the result, we managed to intensify the collaboration of AmCham, UNDP and the Uzbek Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Our companies are encouraged to participate in the Business Forums that meet AmCham's mission statement. We do this to provide a constructive dialog and interaction between the representatives of business circles and the governmental structures. The detailed quarterly report of the Trade and Investment Committee is presented in this issue.
Due to consolidated work of our directors, AmCham member-companies, AmCham Vice-President and the Membership Committee chairman, Mr. Oybek Khalilov, we succeeded to increase the number of our members by 18% in the first quarter of the year 2008 ( see the Membership Committee report)
In this issue you will find an article on special services being provided in accordance with joint AmCham/ US Embassy Visa Referral Program.
Finally, we are deeply interested in facilitation of the regional cooperation with AmChams in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic. In the era of globalization it is important for each business to participate in the international market. We put all our efforts to advertise and promote the business activities of our member companies through the AmCham international network. It was decided that AmCham in Uzbekistan would be actively involved in the regional cooperation. Thus, there will be a series of international events we will participate in: Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). The annual TIFA Council meeting will take place in Dushanbe this June. Trade facilitation will be the core subject of the event.
The annual meeting of AUCC (American Uzbek Chamber of Commerce) will take place in Washington in May 2008.
Currently, we are working on improvement of our web site. All the Committees agendas, contact information, useful business links and other related materials will be available with the Chamber Members on the website.
We look forward to further development of our relationships with you during the year 2008, and we welcome your active involvement in our plans and events.
Thank you for your support, Tatyana Bystrushkina
